Well, my first Mother’s Day has come and passed, and it was such a special day for me. To kick off the weekend, on Friday night Tom and I picked up Mexican food and bubble tea (my favorite) and watched Shark Tank, which is our Friday night ritual. Saturday my dad came in town for the night so he could see us and Maddie Grace before he leaves for Scotland on Friday for a few weeks. I love watching him bond with Maddie, and he basically just wanted to hold her the whole time he was here, until she got fussy at which point he would hand her off to me. For Mother’s Day my husband made us all waffles for breakfast, and gave me my present which was an adorable and very pinteresty frame that says “the best things in life aren’t things” and has Maddie Grace’s footprints on it. After breakfast, we took some pictures in our backyard and headed to one of our favorite parks in Atlanta. There is a short hike around the lake at this park (about 2 miles) so we did that with Maddie Grace in my sling. My shoulder started to hurt from carrying her towards the end of the hike but we made it! At my suggestion we made a quick stop on the way home from the park for ice cream. My dad had to head home after that, so Tom, Maddie Grace and I all cuddled up inn ed and for a Mother’s Day nap, only I wasn’t able to sleep of course.
This is going to be a week of firsts. Over the weekend I attempted to run for the first time postpartum, which was interesting, and today I took Maddie Grace around the block in her stroller by myself. Tonight for the first time I’m leaving Maddie Grace alone with my husband to get dinner with some girlfriends, and tomorrow I may go to mommy and me yoga at the studio where I took prenatal classes, although I also may postpone that for another week or two depending on how Maddie is acting.
