I hope all my readers had a safe and fun Halloween! I know I usually don’t post on Saturdays – this was supposed to be posted yesterday but things got CRAZY over here. Tom and I both had the worst stomach bug over the week, and at 3:00 AM on Halloween we were awoken by MG screaming at the top of her lungs, which is abnormal for her. She felt cold and clammy and refused to nurse, and I knew something was wrong. Then she started gagging, which was followed by vomiting, which she’s never done before. I contacted the on call nurse, who told us to bring her to the children’s hospital ASAP (after asking me a ton of questions about whether we’d been to West Africa lately, which we haven’t). So by 4:00 AM we were at the ER slightly freaking out, because she was still refusing to nurse or drink water from a sippy cup and vomited more in the waiting room. Once we were able to get back into a room, the nurse gave MG some medicine that seemed to miraculously make her completely better. She then nursed, didn’t throw up again, so after a while of monitoring they let us go home, where we both took a nap and then she seemed normal the rest of the day.
I was so worried that we wouldn’t be able to do our Halloween plans, but since she was acting fine Tom and I decided to go ahead and try them so she could enjoy her first Halloween! Our neighborhood has a great parade and Halloween party for the many kiddos here which we missed last year. There were firetrucks, tons of children, and lots of parents with alcoholic beverages. One neighbor even handed out apple cider bottles to all the kids. Tom’s parents came down for the evening and we loved having them go with us. Tom’s mom thought that the apple cider all the kids were drinking was beer and was very concerned for a few minutes there! The parade led to the neighborhood party, where there was pizza and everyone brought a desert. We had a really good time. After the party all the kids start trick or treating, but Maddie Grace decided that enough was enough and that she needed a nap right then, so we just headed home and handed out candy. We didn’t have a ton of trick or treaters, probably because the weather here was cold, rainy, and windy. Today is even worse – VERY cold and windy.
We had a great Halloween night and after our spin in the ER I was thrilled that we were still able to do most of what we had planned. What did you do? Let me know below after you check out this fun giveaway of my favorite baby books in the world!
