I’m sure I’m not the only parent who wonders what the world my child grows up in will be like. Between violence and terrorism all over the world and the way we treat the environment a mama can find a lot to worry about. But luckily there are things that can be done to make the world a better place for both our children and ourselves. Not only will you make a difference with these, but you will be modeling behavior that your children will pick up on and inspiring them to incorporate these ideas into their lifestyle as well.
(1) Spread Kindness
There is so much negativity in the world. It can be as little as snide comments someone says to you at the grocery store and as big as severe bullying that takes place in schools. Break this viscous cycle of negativity by resolving to be positive and be nice to others in hope that they too will pass along the niceness. It might not seem like a lot, but the difference in a positive and a negative comment that you say to the random person you encounter at the grocery store can make all the difference in that persons day.
(2) Volunteer
Time is more valuable than money. Give back to your community by finding a way to volunteer for something that you are passionate about. You don’t need to devote your whole life, in fact you may just want to devote a few hours every few months, but you will make a difference in someone’s life and the world will be a better place because of it.
(3) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Yes you’ve been told that these are a good idea to do since you were a child, but it’s true. Our world only has so many resources and it’s important to be conscious of that. Check and see what recycling services are available where you live. Check into reusable options of disposable products like diapers and paper towels that are terrible for our landfills. Choose paper bags over plastic when you buy groceries because they are recyclable and can be reused for fun crafts with your children.
(4) Limit Fuel Exhaust
Carpool, take public transportation or ride a bike… whatever way you choose to reduce fuel exhaust is making a huge difference.
(5) Switch To Eco Friendly Products
With all the green options out there there is no excuse not to make the switch to eco-friendly products. One product I didn’t even realize had a green alternative until recently is batteries. That’s because Energizer’s EcoAdvanced batteries are brand new and the first battery on the market to use recycled batteries/materials. Energizer’s Ecoadvanced come in AA and AAA size and give you guilt free energy that holds up to 12 years of energy in storage because they are Energizer’s longest lasting alkeline ever.
I found the EcoAdvanced batteries at Walmart:
So what am I missing? What do you do to make the world a better place for your children?
We use cloth diapers as well 🙂 And we also have our own chickens and bees for our own eggs and honey!
What an absolutely lovely thought. And not only for children but for everyone 🙂
