Three day weekends… you are so sweet. And so hard to recover from. I guess that’s why there aren’t many of them – getting back into the swing of things after three glorious days of nothing is tough. I don’t technically have to go back to work today, but my husband does of course and Maddie Grace has school so I get to catch up on the glamorous activities of grocery shopping and laundry. Go me.
Luckily our weekend was great enough that I don’t mind playing catch up all day today. This was a weekend for resting and relaxation. We take Labor Day seriously apparently. Friday night we chilled. I didn’t want to do anything, neither did Tom, so I cooked an easy dinner and we just hung out at home and relaxed. Saturday we had a lazy morning and then watched the Georgia game in our pajamas. We decided to put a little more effort into our afternoon andheaded to the Decatur Book Festival for the afternoon. This is a really big annual event with tons of big name speakers, streets shut down, and booths everywhere. We figured Maddie Grace wouldn’t be able to sit through any speakers so we just explored all the booths which were a lot of fun, but probably better for kids a little older than Maddie Grace. It was really hot and crowded so after a little while we headed for Jeni’s ice cream which never fails. I think in a few years when MG is a little older this will be a great festival to take her to!
After the book festival something really exciting happened. I got my husband to step into the mall. [Does me getting excited about something like this show how old I’m getting?] He really needed a new sport coat but hadn’t bought one since college and so I needed him to try it on. He also really needed new cologne but wanted to try something new and didn’t know what he wanted. I’m happy to report that after making the nice salesladies at Macy’s spray every single cologne they had on sample cards (thank goodness they were good sports and thought he was hilarious) he picked out a cologne, found a great deal on the sport coat he was looking for, and proudly declared he didn’t need to come back to the mall for at least another year. In case you were wondering the cologne he decided on was Mont Blanc Legend which was one of the first ones he smelled and I told him to get right away, but he still had to try them all first.
For Labor Day itself we were excited to make it to the last party at our neighborhood pool of the season, and the only one we were able to go to. There was food and lots of fun for our very last pool day, which actually makes me really sad. I’ve also learned that just about every splash pad is now closed for the season so I’m really not sure what we are going to do every day now. I’m working on getting Tom to put in a pool in our backyard… maybe in a few years?
Last night I was craving barbecue bad so we took a chance on a place that wasn’t far from our house and it turned out to be the perfect spot called The Greater Good Barbecue in Tucker, Georgia. There was a really nice and large patio, and the food was perfect. I’d never heard of it before but if you live in Atlanta I highly recommend trying it out one night. We’ve lived in our house for two years now and in Atlanta for five years and are still discovering new places which is really fun!
So now on to our week. We have less than two weeks until our big Europe trip so I will be stressing out about finishing up some blog projects and getting ready for our trip until we are on that plane taking off. Have you traveled with a toddler before? What do I NEED to bring?
Looks like a great Labor Day!!
Your daughter is adorable!
Go Dawgs 😉
She looks so happy with her watermelon!
Sounds like such a fun family weekend, and that barbecue looks absolutely delicious! Too funny that your guy is no fan of malls–my husband loves the mall…which I realize is probably slightly strange…
