There are weekends where I like being home… when I want to just relax, get caught up on cleaning, spend quality family time sleeping in past 9:00, and so on. Other weekends I need to get away. Anywhere. Just get me out of the house. One of the great things about living in Atlanta is that there are lots of great destinations just a few hours away that are easy to get to and enjoy.
North Georgia Mountains – I’m not sure what it is but I find the mountains so relaxing. Maybe it’s the appeal of being somewhere that doesn’t have too much going on. Sitting on a porch in a rocking chair and watching the sun set over one of the most gorgeous landscapes you can imagine. Amazing north Georgia destinations are really right in our backyard too. Want a fun way to really enjoy the North Georgia Mountains? Check out Glamping Hub – it features some really cool lodging options (tipis, yurts, etc.) and has lots of options available all across north Georgia.
Savannah, Georgia – Well clearly since Savannah is my hometown I would include it on this list. We make it from our house to Savannah in under 4 hours which is pretty much my limit for short weekend trips. Savannah has a lot of both historical attractions and leisure/recreational activities. Like walking around looking at pretty stuff with a strong drink? Got it – you’re allowed to walk around the historic district with open containers. Like fishing or kayaking? It’s a coastal city so it has plenty of both. Like relaxing at the beach with a book? Savannah’s your place.
Nashville, Tennessee – Also under 4 hours away you’ll find the great city of Nashville. While not the best place to take kids, it’s a great couples getaway if you like bars with country music and amazing restaurants.
Chattanooga, Tennessee – Chattanooga is a really great trip for those of us with little ones, as it’s only an hour and a half drive and has a ton for them to do. Rock City, Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain, the Tennessee Aquarium, river cruises – you’ll have plenty of options to keep you busy that kids will love.
Asheville, North Carolina – Asheville is one of my husband and I’s favorite places to visit and we try to make the trip at least once a year. We love touring the Biltmore and exploring the grounds that it’s on, shopping and eating in the downtown area, and hiking all the amazing trails in the vicinity. When I can actually drink when we are there we also enjoy visiting the local breweries.
Do you have any other easy weekend trips that are within a few hours from Atlanta? I’d love some ideas of where to go next – let me know below!
If time allows for a LONG weekend, we don't mind the 6ish hr drive to New Orleans!!
Yes we LOVE NoLa but gotta have at least 4 days to do that drive!
We went to Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head a few times. Birmingham isn't too far away either.
I love both of those! I've never been to Birmingham maybe we will have to make a trip there next summer!
Columbus and Pine Mountain are two great places to visit in Georgia.
I really want to go spend more time at Pine Mountain! Maybe next summer!
My husband and I just enjoyed a long weekend in Savannah! We also celebrated our first anniversary back in March in the Georgia mountains. I can't wait to go back to both!
I'm biased because I went to school there, but I also love Greenville, SC.
My husband told me to put Greenville on my list but I didn't because I haven't really been there! I guess we will have to go check it out!
I love a good road trip. I have been dying to go to Nashville. I just recently feel in love with Country music and feel like it would be the perfect place to visit. Side note: your daughter is adorable.
