My husband and I were talking last night about holiday traditions and the bittersweet aspect of them changing over time. It’s sad to lose holiday traditions of childhood, but exciting and fun to start our own as a family. This is the first year we are having Christmas at our house for the first time – and where we are sad to change it up from how we spent Christmas as children, it’s really exciting to be starting our own traditions and memories as a family.
One big tradition from my childhood, and still today, is my dad always making 7 layer cookies for the holidays. I decided to make some to package up for little gifts alongside Hallmark Ornaments, but wanted to put a spin on them to give them some fall flavor by adding pumpkin and cinnamon.
Here’s what you’ll need:
2 Cups Graham Cracker Crumbs (about 15 crushed crackers)
1 Cup Pureed Pumpkin
1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
1/2 Cup Sliced Almonds
2 Cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
2 Cups Butterscotch Chips
2 Cups Sweetened, Shredded Coconut Flakes
1 14 Ounce Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
Here’s what you’ll do:
Preheat oven to 350 Degrees F. Line a 9″ x 13″ pan with foil, and spray with oil.
Press graham cracker crumbs into bottom of pan to form the crust. In a large bowl, mix pumpkin, condensed milk, cinnamon and almond slices. Spread evenly on top of graham cracker crumbs.
Spread chocolate chips on top of the pumpkin mixture, and then butterscotch chips. Finally top with the coconut flakes.
Bake in oven 35-40 minutes. Allow to cool. Place in refrigerator at least 1 hour to set.
Serve and enjoy, or wrap up and gift alongside an adorable Hallmark Ornament!
I’m so ready to get our home decorated for the holidays I had to go ahead and pick up a new Hallmark Ornament for our home for this year – and I made it extra special by letting Maddie Grace pick out an ornament which I think will make a great new yearly tradition. Hallmark Ornaments had such a great selection for her to choose from – there are 16 exclusive Hallmark Ornaments at Walmart! Look for them in the Christmas section at Walmart!
See more great ornament ideas and tell me which one you would pick out this year! I’d also love to hear more about your family traditions below!
