The first three months with a baby are somehow simultaneously the longest and quickest three months ever. Your baby starts in what has been coined the ‘fourth trimester’, and towards the end transition into pure babyhood. Therefore, toys and games aren’t the highest priority. Your highest priority is keeping baby safe, content, and making your life easier. Here are the products that I am so glad I had in my life the first 3 month, all of which are available at buybuy BABY.
Bassinet
Many pediatricians recommend keeping baby in a bassinet next to your bed for the first six months. This makes it easier to breastfeed baby while keeping baby in a safe environment. There are many bassinets on the market but my favorite by far is the HALO Bassinest Luxe. This bassinet is height adjustable to perfectly fit even a raised King bed, swivels to make it easy for mom to get out of bed at night, and vibrates which helps my baby fall asleep at night.
Footies
Especially ones that cover hands like these from Sterling Baby. I’ve found that baby gloves do not stay on well and little babies love to scratch up their faces if their hands are left uncovered. These ones are especially perfect for newborns too because the snaps are only on the bottom meaning they won’t irritate any belly buttons!
Play Gym
Although your baby won’t really interact with it at first, play gyms are a great place to start getting your baby accustomed to tummy time. By 1-2 months of age your baby will also enjoy laying on their back and looking at the lights and toys that hang from the gym. We have this one and both of our kids loved it as babies. Tripp loves to coo at the different toys and listen to the little melodies that it plays.
Infant Bath Tub
Bathtime for newborns has always been fun but terrifying to me. No way I want my itty bitty baby in a big tub. That’s why I’m a huge fan of having an infant bath tub. And who wants to bend over on their knees and elbows to bath their baby? Not me! The 4Moms infant tub sits in the sink and keeps a fresh flow of water running through the bath while telling you what temperature the water is.
Pacifier
If your baby will take one. Our babies were both big on the Wubbanub… and now we have a 2 year old who is still addicted.
Seats
You’ll want to place your baby down every now and then so you’ll probably want several seats, bouncers, loungers, etc. around the house. If I had to pick only one I would go with this one. Inexpensive, easy to move around the house, and my baby seems super comfortable in it.
Wrap
If you like getting out of the house, accomplishing some housework, or doing anything besides laying down holding a baby, you’ll want some type of baby carrier. My favorite for those newborn days are stretchy wraps like this. Perfect for supporting the head and getting in all the extra newborn snuggles that you can!
Muslin Blankets
I use muslin blankets for everything. Swaddling, nursing cover, car seat cover, burp cloth… you name it. They’re lightweight, soft, breathable, basically everything you’ve ever wanted in life.
Nursing Essentials
Getting the hang of breastfeeding is so difficult. Even if it’s not your first baby. A nursing pillow can make it a lot easier and more comfortable for both you and baby. You’ll also want to stock up on nipple cream and nursing pads to make those first few weeks easier on yourself!
Freddie the Firefly
Freddie the Firefly is another hand me down that Trippy is loving. I’m not sure what it is about this toy but it’s great for car rides for Tripp to have something to play with. He seems to like pulling the rings and crunching the crinkly fabric of the wings. Plus it has a little teether which is great since right around 3 months is when Tripp started cutting his first tooth!
What are your favorite newborn products?
Thank you buybuy BABY for sponsoring this post.
We received a hand down play gym and it was one of the most used items in those first few months. All three kids loved it!
The first three months goes by too fast, actually the first 13 years do too…
My oldest recently turned 14. I have a 10 and 7 year old too, it’s been a long time since holding a sweet little baby. I miss those days. We still have two Boppies, they help prop up the kiddos when they’re sick.
XOXO
The first 3 months go by too fast. Actually, the first 13 years do too. My eldest just turned 14 and I don’t know where time went. I have a 10 and 7 year old as well; it’s been too long since holding a baby.
We still have two Boppy pillows- two of the best baby investments! We use them still when the kids need to be propped up, when they’re sick.
Great list!
XOXO
This seems like a pretty comprehensive list. Some items were new to me and others were like seeing old favorites!
Awesome list! I also loved my muslin swaddle blankets, and my baby wrap. I wish I knew the company for the footies because I loved the ones with the fold down mittens but they seem hard to find!
These are so sweet! I am going to become an aunt in a few months and seeing all these just got me so excited.
So many cute things! It is just too much fun to shop for babies!
Isn’t that the truth…. toys just aren’t effective those first few months. The onsie with arms and no leg enclosure was such a lifesaver with my niece…. 🙂 Some really cute ideas here!
I may or may not have a small obsession with muslin blankets…they’re seriously amazing and I keep extra ones everywhere!!
I completely agree with the swaddle blankets, I don’t know what I would do without them. I also love my carseat that I can lock directly into the stroller, there is nothing worse than a sleeping baby waking up too early!
