Thank you Tom’s of Maine for sponsoring this post! Regardless I only write about products I truly love and that we use in our lives!
My kids might be difficult in some ways, but both love to brush their teeth. It’s usually not a struggle – in fact they remind me when I forget or want to do it just for fun. But getting them to really brush their teeth well? That’s another story. Sometimes I need to find ways to take their mind so they will let me take over and help them brush their teeth. Dental hygiene is important for everyone, even at a young age, so if you need some ways to make a dental hygiene routine more fun for your little ones, here are some ideas:
Use great tasting toothpaste. This seriously makes all the difference. My kids favorite is Tom’s of Maine in the ” flavor. I actually came across this for the first time at my local health food store. I wanted to make sure what my daughter was using had no artificial flavors, sweeteners, dyes, or coloring, and also had no harsh artificial chemicals, and didn’t test on animals – Tom’s of Maine toothpaste meets all those standards. Plus, it’s a brand I’ve known as long as I can remember. This is the first and only natural kids’ toothpaste to receive the American Dental Association’s Seal of Approval. And when you buy Tom’s of Maine products you can feel good about where your money is going – 10% of Tom’s of Maine’s profits go back to supporting people and the planet! And of course this stuff tastes awesome. My kids are obsessed with it and don’t want to use anything else.I’ve tried it as well and can verify that it tastes great! Want your kid to enjoy brushing their teeth? Well the first step in making it fun is to have a flavor to look forward to, and Silly Strawberry is just that! And it comes in both fluoride and fluoride-free to meet your family’s needs!
Have a tooth brushing song. And one that lasts right about two minutes, which is how long your kid should be brushing their teeth. We’ve had fun coming up with our own, but on nights where we aren’t feeling creative but still want a fun song for brushing teeth we pull up the “Silly Brushing Song” by Laurie Berkner:
Sticker charts. I swear stickers could get either of my kids to do anything, especially Maddie Grace! A tooth brushing sticker chart is a great incentive for kids to brush their teeth twice a day and kids always think stickers are fun.
Let your kid pick their brush color. Your kid loving their toothbrush is an important part of the brushing process. At least for both of mine it is. Loving their toothbrush gives them a special connection to brushing their teeth. Both of my kids use a Tom’s of Maine Children’s Toothbrush and they work great!
Engage their imagination. Talk about why we brush our teeth – to keep teeth clean and prevent cavities, but make it fun. You can be superheroes fighting an evil cavity monster, or a princess who needs to make her teeth sparkly and clean for the ball.
I love that Tom’s of Maine and Silly Strawberry Natural Kid’s Toothpaste were around when I was a kid and are still around now! In fact, 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of Silly Strawberry! Check out the story behind how the #1 natural toothpaste for kids came about here.

Love lal these tips but have NEVER heard of strawberry toothpaste! Must see if we have it here
I did not know Toms made toothpaste. We use their deodarant. I will have to look into this. We are starting a teeth brushing routine with our 15 month old so this is great timing.
My kids loved this brand when they were little. It made it easier to get them to brush their teeth!
