As a stay at home mom there’s one thing I’m guaranteed to do multiple times a day – clean the freaking floor. There are constantly kids ignoring me when I yell “SHOES OFF” at them, spilling food and drinks on the floor, and otherwise causing mischief. And while this isn’t as big of a deal right now since they are all walking around, we are having a new baby soon and we all know babies spend a lot of time on the floor whether crawling or doing tummy time, so keeping your floor clean becomes extra important! So here are some tips for keeping a clean floor so your baby has a clean play space:
No shoes in the house.
Like I said above, this is something I’m yelling at the kids a lot that they may or may not listen to but I enforce as much as possible. We even have a “shoe’s off” song that the kids like to sing when they come inside! I also think it’s important to have the kids put their shoes on before going outside (ie don’t go outside barefoot and then come back in) because that’s another way to track dirt and germs all over our floor!
Deep clean every 2 weeks.
I’m open about having house cleaners who come every other week and they handle this for me. They vacuum, and steam our floors and get them sterilized, clean, and shiny.
Keep a Swiffer on hand for every day use.
I find myself vacuuming and sweeping up larger pieces of food and dirt regularly throughout the day but with a baby around I need more than just that. I need to be picking up the little dust, hair, and other particles that the broom and vacuum don’t but my Swiffer does. It can even trap dust and dirt particles in hard to get grout! I also regularly use the wet refills regularly to get the floor extra clean, get those sticky spills taken care of, and because I love the way they smell. Because I’m doing this so often I keep a supply of Swiffer dry refills and wet refills that I buy at Sam’s Club! Order them at Sam’s Club through September 15 and you’ll save $3 on an already great price on both Swiffer dry and wet refills – check it out here! And if you’re like me and have to always take your kids shopping with you you can make it easier with FREE club pickup!
So what’s your routine for keeping your clean floor with a baby around? Would love to hear more below!
