I love 3 day weekends. Memorial Day is always a great one. We celebrate the start of Summer and honor those who gave their lives so that we even get to enjoy all the amazing things that Summer has to offer. It’s just good stuff.
We headed to Savannah for the weekend to visit with my dad and spend some quality time with the beach. We hate battling Atlanta traffic on Fridays so we drove down Saturday morning, made it in time for lunch with my Dad and then we all drove out to the beach together. It was nice but the beach was crowded and windy. That didn’t stop Maddie Grace from having the time of her life though. This little beach bum has a thing for splashing in the waves and eating sand by the handfuls. She was in heaven. After the beach we tried out a yummy new Italian spot by my dad’s house and then he went out to a not-baby friendly party and Tom, MG and I went to sleep before he even got home. There was a time in life when I was the one staying out late and sneaking in the house when he was asleep. Oh how the roles have reversed. I feel old.
Sunday we had breakfast with one of my besties since high school who now owns the coolest new restaurant in the area, Splendid Shabu. After breakfast we spent some time in downtown Savannah – waiting in line at Leopold’s forever for an ice cream cone that was 100% worth the wait, and visited a few of my other favorite shops, until Maddie Grace had a complete breakdown and we had to run home. We made a quick trip out to the beach that evening for more splashing and sand eating fun.
Monday I started off the day with a run with my dad before we grilled out, as one has to do on Memorial Day, and then headed back to Atlanta.
I say we start a petition to make Memorial Day a 2 day holiday next year, who’s in?
