I love anything and everything strawberry this time of year. They’re the perfect treat, and it’s easy to find fresh ones for baking with. My absolute favorite strawberry recipes is red velvet strawberry shortcake – I’ve been making it for years and it’s always a big hit. This year I figured why not dress it up a bit with Strawberry Twizzlers Twists and Strawberry Lemonade Twizzlers Twists, and then added some fun red white and blue sprinkles since July 4th is coming up.
Here’s what you’ll need to make it yourself:
1 Box Red Velvet Cake Mix
Vegetable Oil (refer to cake mix instructions)
Eggs (refer to cake mix instructions)
2 Cans Vanilla Whipped Icing
1 Bag Strawberry Twizzlers Twists
1 Bag Strawberry Lemonade Twizzlers Twists
1 Quart Fresh Strawberries
Red, White, and Blue Sprinkles (if desired)
2 Cans Vanilla Whipped Icing
1 Bag Strawberry Twizzlers Twists
1 Bag Strawberry Lemonade Twizzlers Twists
1 Quart Fresh Strawberries
Red, White, and Blue Sprinkles (if desired)
And here’s what you need to do:
1) Follow cake mix instructions to bake cake in 2 round pans (8 inch). Allow to cool completely.
2) Place one cake on serving dish. Spread a generous layer of icing on top of cake, and top with strawberries and Strawberry Twizzlers Twists.
3) Carefully place second cake on top of the first. Press down on it so that the gap between the two cake lessens.
4) Spread remaining icing on top of cake and on sides. Decorate the top with remaining strawberries and Strawberry Twizzlers Twists. Use Strawberry Lemonade Twizzlers Twists to outline the circles of the top and bottom of cake. Decorate cake how you wish and top with red, white, and blue sprinkles if you want to make it festive!
