We just got back last night from a super fun weekend in New Jersey, where my husband’s family lives. My husband and I have been together around 7 years now and the whole time I’ve hard stories about this epic Fourth of July party they have every year, and was determined to finally make it this year. Plus we were able to tell his family in person about our pregnancy!
We flew up Thursday night and were very excited to see Pop, my husband’s 92 year old grandfather who is a WWII vet and coaching legend in their town, and full of the most incredible stories. MG took to Pop right away and he was so impressed that when he asked her to bring him the football she would go pull the football out of the bin of toys and take it to him.
The big event was Saturday of course. Our day started with the Paramus Fourth of July Parade with the whole family. Maddie Grace loved watching the parade and dancing to the music. After the parade we headed to Tom’s uncle’s house where the big party was. Food and family… can’t beat it. There was even a surprise proposal by Tom’s cousin to his sweet girlfriend, which was super exciting to be a part of.
There were three great-grandchildren in the family born within a year of each other, including Maddie Grace, and they all got to meet on Saturday which was pretty special. In fact, we were even able to get a picture of Pop with all 7 of his great-grandchildren!
I don’t know why I was so worried about the flight. It was only an hour and a half, and Maddie Grace did amazing both ways. On the way back towards the end of the flight she even cuddled up on me and fell asleep (which never happens) and slept through the entire landing. This makes me much more optimistic about how our flight to Germany will be in September!
As much as it stinks to live entirely too far from family it’s always kind of nice to get home and back into our routine. This week my focus is on cleaning the house and working on all of our projects (indoor and out). What are your goals for the week?
