This pregnancy is flying. I know the last few weeks will seem like eternity but it also seems like I just got a positive test yesterday. I’m so happy to be into the second trimester and this baby bump is certainly growing. This week the app on my phone tells me that baby is the size of an apple!
Feeling: Overall I’m feeling pretty good, the morning sickness seems to have totally subsided, and I’m not feeling quite as moody as I was the first trimester. I have started having the worst headaches though. They’re pretty much debilitating and when I get them I can’t really do anything except go to sleep, so it’s a good thing they seem to come at night. I’m told it’s nice that I can go to sleep when I have them – I guess some people get headaches so bad they can’t even sleep. However, night is the only time I really have to work on my blog or any other writing work that I do so these headaches are really hindering that. I’ve also been very tired though and sleeping like a rock which is good on one hand since I was having problems with insomnia during the first trimester, but bad when I need energy throughout the day and to get some things done at night!
Eating: I’m still having strong cravings and aversions, but nothing quite as crazy as the cravings during the first trimester! I’m loving me some Chick-Fil-A, and the other day I needed a hot dog randomly in the middle of the day, and just last night I had to have a quesadilla. I’ve been craving fountain cokes like crazy but trying to resist that one since I know how unhealthy they are. As far as aversions I can’t even be near chicken except fried chicken from Chick-Fil-A. I’m also not that into sweets right now when I usually have a huge sweet tooth!
Weight: I’ve only gained around 3 pounds which I’m happy about, but when I look at pictures I feel like I look huge. I’ve not been working out as much as usual lately so I’m thinking I’m losing muscle and gaining fat which is no good! I’m trying hard to get back into eating healthier and working out more but that’s difficult even when not pregnant!
Workouts: I’m still working out but nowhere near as much as I should be! It’s so hot outside I can’t stand it, and sometimes it’s hard to make it to the gym during the times they have childcare. I’m trying to go to a spin class and stay at least 30-40 minutes at least 1-2 times a week for some good cardio, and have leg and arm days either at home or at the gym. I did a lot of prenatal yoga at a local studio when I was pregnant with Maddie Grace and loved it so I think I’m going to try to get back into that this week.
Skin: This is still one of my biggest struggles! I picked up the Belli Anti-Blemish Basics Value Set recently and it has helped a lot! My skin is still far from perfect though so I’m excited about trying a few other new products and seeing what they can do for me!
Comments: I’ve gotten a lot of “you’re really starting to show” comments lately and more “wow your kids are going to be really close together” than I care for. I’m not sure why these bother me, Maddie Grace and baby #2 are going to be 21 months apart which isn’t really that close. And why does anyone care anyways? I answer everyone who makes a comment of this sort with “yeah I just can’t keep my hands off Tom.” I mean seriously, I know how babies are made. It was a little earlier than we were planning on but the more I think about it the more I think it’s the perfect timing for our second baby! I also love the “is this your last baby?” question. I mean right now I hope to have more but who knows, I’m taking it one baby at a time.
We’ve been making an effort to get out and about more on weekday nights and enjoy quality family time. Last night we did one of our favorite weeknight activities – food truck night at a nearby park! We love getting outside, the food clearly, and usually they have live music although last night they didn’t. Also totally off topic but I saw a friend post about this 2016 Kate Spade large planner and I had to go out and get it – it’s the best and it started this week so if you are in need of a planner I highly recommend it!
Any advice on good prenatal workouts or what to do about pregnancy headaches? I’d love to hear what worked for other mamas!
I'm right there with you–craving fountain cokes, and chick-fil-a is really the only meat I want!
So I think I might need that planner too! I think you are so darn cute and you look great mama! I loved me some Chick-fil-a too with #2! I love the bump dates!
That is so great! You make an adorable pregnant woman. I can't wait to be a mom. I'm very excited. Pregnancy is definitely not fun, but I'm glad you made it to the second trimester and things are going well. So fun!
Aw thank you 🙂 And I was terrified of being pregnant but overall have loved it both times (so far)!
My second and third are 21 months apart also! And my youngest is 18 months old, and I'm due any day with #4, so I get it. I don't get many actual comments from people, but I do get LOTS of looks. 🙂 It's tiring and hard, but also great. They're all such good friends and we don't have jealousy issues. Just ignore the haters. 🙂
I was thinking the same thing…BoTH things! Haha ❤️
First off, you look amazing and I will tell you that I was way bigger at this point than you are now with my second. I think you gain whatever your body needs to gain and that is that- so don't kill yourself with the gym thing. Just do what you can! My boys are 19 months apart and I love it. Sure it is harder in the beginning when they are both small but it is perfect for us and they are best friends already. Forget what people say – but I love your response. I will have to use that one next time! Haha!
You look great! I think you look small for a second baby. Olivia is 21 months now and I wish I had a newborn. She loves babies so much and would love a friend that's one of hers (BC she's shy). I just think this would have been the perfect time for us to have a second. Haters gonna hate.

SO cute lady! You look so great – I hope I can be half as cute as you when I am pregnant.

Haha thank you!!! And yes the planner is AMAZING I'm so in love!
Look at that sweet little bump! So so sweet!
I hear you! Chick-fil-a nuggets were the only kind of chicken I could handle during my first trimester! They're so darn delicious that I could forget they were chicken. I also gained 3 pounds in the first trimester, but I lost muscle, and I totally understand how it feels like more than it really is. I didn't believe my husband when he told me I still looked great, but I'm going to tell you anyway: you look fantastic! Like you said, eat healthy, work out when you can, enjoy a few treats, and let your body do what it's going to do. It's still SO hard for me to remember that, but repeating that to myself is sometimes the only thing that keeps me from going crazy.
You look great! I got headaches around this point too – the worst! Believe it or not, a small amount of caffeine helped me with them. If I had peppermint oil at the time, I probably would have used that too! I'm happy to send you a sample if you want to try it out – just let me know!
