How are we here already? 1 month until 2? That can’t be right. And 2 months? No, no, no… my little baby Trippy was just born yesterday – remember?
Boy has the last month been a good one though. Tripp now gives us the most adorable smiles and even little chuckles, and Maddie Grace has transformed into a really sweet and loving big sister. She especially loves that Tripp is somewhat interactive now. She loves smiling at him and tickling his chin the way she sees Tom and I do to get him to smile. And when she is successful and he gives her a cute smile she just about dies laughing so hard. She will lean over him and say in a super high pitched voice “Hi bubby (her version of buddy)! Bubby sweet! Bubby cute! I love you Bubby!” She’s also a big fan of helping give him his pacifier and has actually gotten good at holding it in his mouth for him. Another way Maddie Grace wants to help with her brother is through burping him and trying to help him eat. She will come up and hit his back lightly the way I do after he eats and when he seems hungry she will try to pull my shirt down to help him get milk. MG also always wants to ‘hold’ her baby brother which we let her do if she’s sitting on the couch or against the back of the bed, and by hold I mean we put his head in her lap – and when this happens she always looks up and gives us a huge, proud smile. These are good times.
Her adorable little outfit here is from Lacey Lane, an Australian shop that has he cutest little girl clothing! And the Mickey and Minnie shoes come from Mini Melissa. Maddie Grace is obsessed with these shoes. Like will throw a total tantrum if you take them off her obsessed. She wants to sleep in them she loves them so much. I think they’re pretty adorable as well, they seem super comfortable, and they smell like bubble gum. I think they will be perfect for our trip to Disney World!
Maddie Grace’s big thing the last month has been learning how to jump. She practices constantly but still hasn’t quite gotten it down, which I’m not sure is normal. She will shout “Jump! Jump!” and bend her legs and then either go up and lift one leg off the ground, or go up to her tippy toes on both feet, but never quite get both feet off the ground. And she never wants to do it alone. It’s always “Come on mama, come daddy, let’s jump!” I also love the way she runs. Almost a stomping run. And she’s always running. MG has an insane amount of energy for a child who almost never sleeps.
I’m so impressed by MG’s conversational skills. Every day is something new. Just yesterday we were getting ready to go to the park on a play date and she started having a melt down while getting ready so I said “Do you want to go see Charlotte and Will?” (which almost always gets her to get ready and on our way) and she turned to Tripp and said “Bubby wanna see Char and Will? Yeah? Okay, come on let’s go!” I’ve also loved watching how she interacts with other kids her age socially lately. She has a little friend named Charlotte who she will tell you is her best friend if you ask (although sometimes her answer is daddy) and they play really well together. Yesterday they fed each other their snacks, and Maddie Grace kept trying to help Charlotte up the stairs to the slide (I’m not sure Charlotte really needed any help though). When they’re playing if Charlotte isn’t in MG’s line of sight she will start saying “Where you Char?” or “You okay Char?” and it’s pretty adorable.
My favorite thing about Maddie Grace is just her overall love of life. Girlfriend is over the moon happy about everything. I mean, attempting to jump when she can’t even do it thrills her so you can bet things like swings at the playground are the BEST THING EVER to her. I also adore her maniacal laugh and how she laughs about just about everything. She has her meltdowns, as I suspect every 23 month old does, but overall she is a sweet and happy girl and I couldn’t ask for anything else.
Tripp’s update compared to Maddie Grace’s might not be as interesting. He is growing like crazy though and still exclusively breastfed. He is now fitting into size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothing (which leaves me with about 4 boxes of sized 1 diapers that hopefully I can trade in and tons of 0-3 month outfits with the tags still on them). He is looking way less like an alien and more like a little baby, although he still has a bit of an old man look to him.
Tripp’s eyes still seem grey (maybe hazel?) to us – sometimes more blue, sometimes a little brownish. And his hair is a mystery. He doesn’t have much of it but sometimes it seems to have a hint of red to it – so maybe it will be an auburn color? Tripp’s favorite things right now are snuggling, eating, sleeping, being worn, his play mat, and observing everything around him. I think that’s why he likes being worn so much – he’s very alert and seems to just be taking everything in. I love this top from Lalabu Baby – it has a pouch for carrying Tripp in and is a nursing top. It’s super comfortable and Trippy enjoys being in it and usually falls to sleep after being in it a while so I think he must like it.
