I love cooking with a cast iron skillet. There are so many benefits to doing so – like fortifying your food with extra iron and being a chemical free nonstick cooking surface. Plus using a cast iron skillet can make your food taste extra delicious. But cast iron skillets do require some extra care for maintenance and upkeep. But with the right products it’s pretty easy to clean a cast iron skillet. Here’s what you do:
[1] Using a Scotch-Brite® Scrubbing Dish Cloth gently scrub off any food residue left in the skillet. This cloth is great to use because it works hard to get food off of dishes but won’t scratch your skillet!
[2] Rinse and dry pan with warm water. Pat dry with a dish towel.
[3] Using another dish towel lightly coat the whole pan with oil.
And wanting to make something delicious using your cast iron so that you have a reason to clean it? Here’s a yummy egg white and spinach quiche recipe.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Pie Crust [Use whatever recipe you’re comfortable with or buy a refrigerated one]
2 Cups Egg Whites
1 Cup Fresh Spinach
1 Cup Fat Free Milk
3/4 Cup Mozzarella Cheese
Here’s what you do:
[1] Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
[2] Press pie crust into bottom of skillet.
[3] In a large mixing bowl mix egg whites and milk, and then stir in spinach and 1/2 cup cheese. Pour over crust. Top with remaining cheese.
[4] Bake for 45 minutes. Allow to cool, then serve and enjoy!

I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this post. I have a cast iron skillet that was given to me as a gift two years ago that I haven’t used yet simply because I had zero clue how to clean it. THANK YOU for this!!
This is so great! I usually leave it to Nate to clean the skillet since I’m so scared of causing it to rust. 😉
I love my cast iron skillet, but I never thought to make a quiche in it. What a neat idea – yum! #client
This is so cool! I use my cast iron skillet all the time. The Scotch Brite Scrub cloth works really well on mine too. I can’t wait to try out a quiche in it. How neat!
Yum! That quiche looks fantastic! I definitely need a cast iron skillet, and these clothes look great to clean it.
I really need to clean ours! Great tips
Ok, I’m convinced. My friend loves these Scoth Brite scrubbing cloths and has told me all about them but I never thought to use them on my cast iron skillets. I only cook with cast iron. I love them but don’t love the clean up. I will definitely give these a try! Thank you!
