Being a mom is tough. When I became a mom I really didn’t have many friends who were moms, so I felt really isolated, alone, even lost. Friends would ask what being a stay at home mom was like and I heard several times “aren’t you bored?”
Never bored, only lonely. This was always my response. My husband also traveled a lot after our first was born. When she turned six weeks old he traveled for six weeks in a row. I would go Monday through Friday without really socializing with anyone.
Slowly but surely I got out of the house more and more, and started making mom friends. I picked them up random places sometimes. One I met shopping, one I met at a swim class, one I met through a friend, some I knew from college but grew close with because we had similarly aged children. But through these moments, a community of moms forged into a group of women with really strong relationships with one another.
When I have a question, need to vent, want to share something funny, these are the ladies I turn to. My mama wing women. We hold each others newborns, keep an eye on each others kids. Bring one another a meal when they need it. Share in each others joys, and cry for one another when life hands us the hard cards.
We always say that one day we will build a neighborhood that is just us, and have a neighborhood pool and splash pad of course. That would be a dream come true, because these are the women that I really want to do life with, and Atlanta traffic can really get in the way sometimes. My favorite wing women.
Teva Women’s Health currently has a “wing woman” campaign going on. Your wing woman is someone who is always there for you to turn to!
Who is your wing woman? I’d love to hear all about it below!
I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
Love this soooo incredibly lucky to have each other!!
