It’s been a while but I’m back with another segment of my lazy girl’s guide series, and this time it’s for one of my favorite things in the world. Makeup. Yep, I’m sharing the Lazy Girl’s Makeup Guide. I’ve never understood why makeup has to be so difficult. My makeup drawers are literally overflowing with products. And I don’t use that many of them. Also contouring? Uhhh well before the stuff I’m talking about today the extent of my contouring was using bronzer. And sometimes I would blend brown eyeliner on the sides of my nose to help shape it. That’s why Maskcara Beauty has been a total game changer for me. Makeup with awesome coverage, that quickly and easily sculpts and highlights my natural features. Not to mention the fact that it’s affordable.
This awesome makeup line was developed by makeup artist and huge beauty blogger Cara Brooks. This girl knows her stuff, which is what made me want to try the line in the first place. I started with the basic HAC (highlight and contour) pack. Here’s what comes in it:
Base Makeup
So a HAC Pack is your base makeup and consists of Highlighter, Contour, Blush, and Illuminator. if you’re wondering I wear the shades Aura, Walnut/Olive, Nude blush and Rose Gold illuminator. It ships with a little instruction sheet that shows you exactly where each product goes. The idea is that you replace your foundation with the highlight and contour colors – both of which are a full coverage cream that stays put. Each tin is $12 and I’ve been using mine for a month and barely put a dent in them so they are going to last a long time. So yes – $48 (which is close to what I used to spend on foundation alone) replaces your foundation, contour, blush, and highlighter. This is amazing. The highlight and contour cover my acne and stay put even on my oily skin (the Maskcara Stay spray makes the perfect primer and is a steal compared to other setting sprays), the nude blush is the perfect shade for me and one I also like to put on my lips, and the rose gold illuminator is a whole new level of gorgeousness. It’s the perfect amount of sheen for daily wear without being overwhelming. Here’s a helpful video of how it works:
And a fun before/after:
Brushes/Tools
I was so impressed with my HAC compact that I jumped in and ordered the artist package which came with all the colors, eye shadows, brush es, MILK, and more. Once I started using the makeup with the right brushes I fell in love with the product even more. the 30 second HAC brush is a mus t have when buying the foundation, and once again it’s an awesome value for a two sided brush. The slanted end is the perfect angle for applying hig hlighter, and the rounder end is for blending out the contour color. The Detail HAC brush is also great, although not quite as crucial as the 30 Second HAC brush, but it has a slanted edge perfect for getting the contour color right where it belongs below your cheek bones and a smaller end that is great for contouring the nose. And like most girls I love having a beauty blender to blend together my face makeup – well the Maskcara beauty perfector blows the beauty blender out of the water. It is softer, blends better, easier to clean, and it’s only $12. Yes, that’s $8 less than the Beauty Blender. It’s a must have. Even if you don’t order anything else get this.
Eyes
I seriously have too many eye shadow palette’s to count. I have them all. So I know what I’m talking about when I say this eye shadow is awesome. It feels silky and smooth going on like Urban Decay one’s that I’ve used, and it blends out beautifully. The shades are gorgeous and the pigmentation is just right. The tins that you get with Maskcara are bigger than eyeshadow singles from other brands and what is used in other brand’s palettes. I also find that using a wet liner brush in any of the shadows makes a perfect eyeliner that is budge-proof! Oh and the brown shadows work great as brow fillers.
But you know what’s missing? Mascara. I know, I know, how can a brand called Maskcara not have mascara? Cara has stated it’s because she wants it to be the best one ever and she’s still working on developing it. Until then there’s always Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.
Storage
Quite possibly my favorite think about Maskcara is that I fit all my makeup in to a double decker palette that takes up hardly any room at all. On top I have a couple highlight and contour colors, a a few blush/lip colors, and on the bottom I have eyeshadows and setting powder. This palette has the prettiest marble and gold foil pattern and super strong magnets so it won’t bust open. It’s great for taking on the go, or just taking up less room in your makeup drawer.
Skincare
Part of Maskcara‘s philosophy is to highlight your natural beauty, and that means paying attention to skincare. The Maskcara MILK cream has done wonders for my skin. I started using it about a month ago and I only use it at night (I need a lotion with spf during the day). Since I started using it I see less visible wrinkles, my skin is brighter, more moisturized, and overall looks healthier. It is all natural, smells amazing, and is full of ingredients that help your skin create more collagen and things like honey which are natural acne fighters. The other skincare product Maskcara sells is the micellar water makeup removing wipes. I’ve never used a makeup removing wipe that cleans my face as well as these do, plus they smell amazing.
