*Thank you Premier Protein for sponsoring this post. Regardless all thoughts and opinions are my own
Let’s be honest, one of the best parts about going on any vacation is eating yummy food. But I think even more so with kids when your excursion opportunities are limited you really look forward to being able to distract your kids with food and enjoy a nice meal yourself. But between the constant eating, laying around, family vacations can easily become unhealthy. But once you fall into a funk of unhealthiness (especially when on a trip) it’s really difficult to return back to your regular life and be healthy again. Here are my best tips on how to stay healthy on family vacation:
Bring Your Own Food – And as much of it as possible. When you are traveling and out and about exploring wherever your destination is, your food choices may very well be limited. When you have healthy meal options at your hotel or snack options on the go you are going to be way more inclined to eat healthy. When your only food option is a snack shack that has cheeseburgers and french fried you probably won’t eat healthy.
Snack – This will help with both portion control and not spending an insane amount of money. Try to eat little healthy snacks throughout the day instead on binging on huge meals. Of course since it’s vacation it’s fine to indulge in a big fancy meal but limiting doing so will really help you stay on track.
Find Ways to Get Protein – And the best way to make sure you are getting enough protein might not be what you thing. When we travel it’s difficult to make protein shakes, and sometimes lean protein sources aren’t available for meals. That’s why I bring along Premier Protein Clear. It has 20g of protein but only 90 calories, and no sugar or artificial sweeteners. It’s an easy drink to take on the go and it is delicious. We even brought them into Disney World with us on our last trip! You can find them at Sam’s Club in a 12 pack or from SamsClub.com if you are one of us who prefer not to leave the house for shopping. It also is a great refreshing drink to give you a little boost in your day no matter where you are.
Walk Everywhere – You might not have time to workout, so find ways to get exercise wherever you can. Walking is a great way to see the scenery of wherever you are, and burn some calories. Also I’ve found that walking with the kids in the stroller is a great way to get them to take a nap as well.
Do Active Activities – With young kids this can be really hard, but it is do-able and even easier with older kids. Go hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and whatever gets you out and moving around. Not only will you have a lot of fun, but you won’t feel so guilty if you do have a cheat meal later that day.
