I don’t know if it’s this pregnancy or if everyone hates the heat as much as I do. But after just a few minutes in the temperatures and humidity we’ve been having and I’m both exhausted and nauseous. Pretty much every day I’m thinking of a way to avoid the park or playing in our backyard because it’s just too hot. So here are the best beat the heat activities that are topping our list this summer:
1 – Chuck E. Cheese. My kids beg to go to Chuck E. Cheese‘s constantly and the summer is a great time to say yes to them and get in on the fun! We are so lucky to have one close to us, and close to Tom’s work so he can meet us there. Also right now is a great time to go because during the month of June Chuck E. Cheese has a BOGO deal where you can buy one large pizza and get one free! This is great for families who love pizza, gathering with friends, or even throwing a birthday party. We do the All You Can Play option so our kids can have fun and earn more tickets the entire time we are there. We just pause our time to eat when the pizza is ready and then get back to eating! Our kids have a blast playing the games, we always run into friends there, and the pizza is seriously delicious. At the end of our time there we count up the tickets and turn them in for some fun prize which is such a rush for the kids! This is something we plan on doing at least every other week with the kids because we all have so much fun!
2 – Indoor Water Centers. This is my jam this summer. We have several around us – indoor pools or water recreation areas. It gets us out of the scorching temperatures and still a way for the kids to enjoy water and have a blast.
3 – The Pool. Why isn’t this first? Because it’s still outside. And for me this is hard because Millie isn’t a huge fan of being in the water and I have to stay with her. I’ve also realized that the pool isn’t the easiest place with 3 mobile kids. I need to be by Millie pretty much at all times, but also feel the need to be near my other kids especially as Maddie Grace is now swimming without a floatie! But it’s still a fun summer spot and a way for the kids at least to get some outside time without burning up!
4 – Indoor Shopping Centers. We are on a pretty strict budget so I’m avoiding the stores at our local mall but still have fun taking the kids to ours on hot days! We can walk around and look at stuff, go to the kids playground in it, grab a quick lunch at the food court, and ride the carousel or train. It always makes for a fun day!
5 – Creative Games Inside. I add this on here somewhat hesitantly because I want to be clear I don’t mean making something up on the fly. In our house for a game to really hold my kids attention and be a fun day long activity I have to put a lot of planning into it. So even if we are playing sleepover or blanket fort I get the supplies together beforehand, and try to get a few things they haven’t seen yet (like fort decorations, a s’more snack, a new book to base a craft off of etc). But as much as we like getting out of the house with enough planning I can keep the kids occupied and happy for a whole day at home which is always a win!
So there you go! I hope this gives you some ideas for activities to do with the kids on these super hot summer days! Let me know what your favorite beat the heat activities are in the comments below!
