This weekend we went on our first long road trip with Maddie Grace, and I am still trying to figure out why we thought a two month old on an eleven plus hour car ride was a good idea, but we did and we survived to tell about it. We drove to and from Ohio with a stop at Mammoth Cave in Kentucky (that means we spent a long time in the car), but it was worth it to spend time with family and attend my cousin’s wedding in Ohio.
We set off for Mammoth Cave in Kentucky Wednesday morning with four adults and one baby in a car. I knew we were staying in cabins, but was told it would be cool so it was fine that they weren’t air conditioned, and that they were really nice. This was not quite the case. Perhaps in the fall they are nice, but while we were there temperatures were in the upper 90’s, which is apparently normal for June, and they were quite run down and buggy. Let’s just say we were happy to leave them. But it was nice to spend time with family as my Aunt, Uncle, and cousins from Texas met us there, and we were able to do a short tour of the cave while my mom watched MG, which was pretty neat.

MG feels the same way about camping that I do.

On the way to Ohio we stopped at Maker’s Mark distillery on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail to tour their grounds and do a bourbon tasting. Also, my husband fulfilled his lifelong dream of dipping his own bottle of Maker’s in wax. I was not expecting their grounds to be so gorgeous.
While in Ohio we spent time with family, and checked out some local spots.

And of course, celebrated the marriage of a lovely couple. MG did pretty well at the wedding. We stayed outside the church during the ceremony, and she lasted about 3 hours at the reception before she decided enough was enough. We were so glad she got to meet so many family members – we had a blast!

This trip was MG’s first time meeting “Omie” aka my mom.
Ended the night dancing with this sweet girl – couldn’t be better!
