*Thank you Evivo for sponsoring this post. Regardless all thoughts and opinions are my own and I only recommend brands I truly use and love.
If you follow me on social media, you probably saw our big announcement last weekend. We are officially expecting baby #4. 4 kids. I still haven’t quite wrapped my brain around it. I always wanted 4 kids but maybe not quite this close together, and thought we could adopt the last one after how tough Millie’s pregnancy was. Tom wanted 3 kids when we got married and I was always trying to talk him into 4 or 5, and after Millie suddenly he wanted a fourth (and wanted one more than I did). But even if the timing isn’t quite what we wanted we are excited and feel super blessed to be adding another little one to our family.
I am past the 16 week mark in this pregnancy and officially into the second trimester which is pretty exciting. But the most common question I’ve been getting lately is: “what are you doing to get ready for the baby at this point?”
Because this is my fourth, this might look a little different for me than it does for other people. We still have a lot of baby stuff around the house. In fact I’ve been trying to get rid of a lot of it because it’s more than we need. But there are still other steps we are taking to prepare. Here’s what they are:
Research new baby products and make a list.
My kids are all relatively close in age. What blows my mind is how much has changed between each one during that short period of time! There are always new products being developed and released that can be game changing for parents. One big one that I’ve already gotten and stored for baby #4, that we actually used and loved with Millie too, is Evivo. Evivo is a probiotic for newborns in the form of a powder that is mixed with breast milk and delivered to baby via syringe to ensure baby gets the good bacteria B. Infantitis and replaces the bad bacteria in your baby’s gut. Studies have shown that the bad bacteria leads to higher risk of autoimmune and metabolic issues like colic, eczema, allergies, diabetes and obesity. It’s important that babies get this as infants because those first 0-6 months are so important for child development and can have an effect on stomach issues as a child grows.
And we now know how common gut issues are for children. 9 out of 10 babies born in the US have a low functioning gut microbiome due to the lack of the good bacteria in them. And all probiotics aren’t the same. I trust Evivo because they’ve put over a decade into research and clinical trials studying B. Infantitis and the effect it has on a child’s gut. And Evivo is the only probiotic clinically proven to repopulate baby’s gut with the good bacteria they are missing 100% of the time, every time. On top of being 100% effective in restoring B. Infantitis to baby’s gut has been proven to reduce bad bacteria by 80%.
So when it comes to my must have products for this new baby Evivo tops the list. It’s a list that is still just starting so I’m not sure what else will end up on it but I plan to spend time looking into what baby products have been developed so I make sure we are well prepared and having everything we need to give baby the best start!
Prepare the kids for a new sibling.
If you have kids already go ahead and talk to them constantly about having a new sibling. When they draw pictures of their family, tell them to include the new baby in there. Talk about the baby like they are a functioning member of the family so that the kids already have it ingrained in their minds. There are books you can buy and shows you can show them that highlight adding a new baby to a family too.
Design the nursery.
There’s really no rush to even buy anything for the nursery in the second trimester but one of my favorite parts of pregnancy is always designing a nursery for the new baby. I make an idea board using a photo editor – inserting pictures of different products I like to see how they fit together around whatever theme I’ve picked for it. I probably won’t actually buy anything in the third trimester but it’s still fun to have an idea of what we want and are looking for so I can start buying things I might see on sale.
There you have it. I think the second trimester of pregnancy is a time to relax, be excited about having a baby, but not stress out too much about whether everything is in place yet or not. It’s a good time to research and prepare, and find out about things like Evivo and why they are important for your new baby.
