Atlanta yogis! I am so excited – in less than a week, June 6th from 7AM to 2PM, the Atlanta Women’s Foundation Yogathan is taking place at Centennial Olympic Park. This event is a series of large community yoga classes led by top Atlanta yoga instructors and internationally celebrated instructor Sean Corne. There will be a sponsor expo with all types of yoga and wellness related goodies to sample and purchase, and musical entertainment at the end of the event. Participants join together on teams, and to participate yogis must raise a $200 donation to the Atlanta Women’s Foundation.
The donation may seem on the high end but the Atlanta Women’s Foundation is a well deserving organization that works to break the cycle of generational poverty in Atlanta. The foundation has invested more than $13 million into Atlanta area nonprofit organizations that that move women and girls from poverty to economic self-sufficiency. In Atlanta alone 81,000 girls and 320,000 women wake up in poverty each day. Did you know that nearly 1/2 of children born into high school don’t graduate high school? That one in five babies born in metro Atlanta was born to a teenage mom? Or that families that live in poverty spend 30% of their income on childcare? I can’t imagine spending 30% of my family’s income on childcare and we aren’t in poverty. See how this is a vicious cycle to break out of? Oh and think it doesn’t affect you or doesn’t exist in your area? Well get this – nearly 90% of Atlanta’s poor live in suburbs.
This sounds like so much fun!
Oh it will be 🙂
We will be there too! Absolutely can't wait!
