Well, it was really longer than a weekend that we were in Savannah since we drove down Wednesday morning for a conference Tom was attending Wednesday – Friday. Why do these trips always fly by yet the cold, rainy days in Atlanta drag on? I’d love an answer to that.
But to be honest Wednesday and Thursday were rough for Maddie Grace and I. We were both still struggling with our colds, Maddie Grace’s sleep schedule got all messed up so she was super cranky which made me cranky. I even sent out a video to friends Wednesday night of her screaming in our hotel room for no apparent reason and that’s about how both days went for us. We made it to the hotel pool and splash pad both days though which may not seem like the best choice when we were under the weather, but the pool was heated and it was warm anyways so I took advantage of the one activity that seemed to make my fussy toddler happy, and it was worth it. It was kind of odd playing tourist in my hometown. We managed to make it to lunch with a friend and shop around some, but that’s about all that we did. Maddie Grace did enjoy just walking by the river in front of the hotel and watching the birds and boats go by so we spent a good amount of time doing that.
Friday Tom got out of his conference late-morning and that’s when it felt like our trip really began. We headed downtown and got lunch, shopped, and walked around enjoying the absolutely gorgeous day. We went to one of the squares and let Maddie Grace run around where she met another girl who happened to have the same name and birthday as her and it was really cute to watch them play together.
Saturday was the half-marathon that Tom has been training for. This was his fifth year in a row running the Savannah Rock ‘N Roll half marathon. It was a crazy hot day for November, with temperatures reaching the mid-80’s, and incredibly humid, so not the best running conditions. There was a big problem with runners getting injured and passing out from heat exhaustion during the race, and a lot of people running the full marathon were cut off from running the whole thing because of that. While Tom ran Maddie Grace and I went to a friends’ apartment that was right on the finish line and were able to spend some time with friends, eat, and hear Rascal Flatts playing as the headliner. Maddie Grace had a great time performing for everyone who came to this race watching party and forcing them to all take fake naps and then waking them up. She loves being the centre of attention and ‘performing’ for the people around her which is really funny to watch.
Saturday night my dad came back from a conference he was at so we were able to spend some time with him then and during the day Sunday before we did the drive back to Atlanta in the pouring rain. It didn’t feel like enough time but we will be back in two weeks for Thanksgiving which will be the last I’m able to travel for a while.
Our week so far has actually been off to a good start. Maddie Grace had her little nature class yesterday, my house is the cleanest it’s every been, and I was able to get together with a law school friend yesterday and meet her adorable baby girl. We are hoping to get a lot done this week with setting up Maddie Grace’s new room and are scheduled to go tour the hospital and meet the doctors at my new practice tonight which I’m weirdly really excited about!
Time well spent surely.. Lovely photos! 🙂
