When you’re a mom it’s easy to make unhealthy choices. Let’s be real. When you’re running tired and you reach for a sugary caffeinated beverage. When your kid is eating goldfish and you grab a handful, or 2, or 8, to snack along with them. When you pick up fast food instead of preparing a healthy meal for your family. When you’re exhausted after a long day and pass out on the couch instead of going for a run like you planned. I don’t know about all the other moms out there, but I am all about anything that makes it easier to stay healthy. And sometimes it just comes down to the choices we make! Here are some ways you can make healthy choices as a mom:
Switch out sodas for flavored water. I always want a sweet pick me up throughout the day. And I get so bored of water – it’s the little things when you feel trapped with two toddlers all day. But instead of a sugar filled soda, I’ve switched over to sugar free flavored waters. I drink about 5 a day and I don’t feel guilty about it at all.
Figure out your workouts. Finding a way to workout as a mom is really, really hard. I’m not going to deny that. But it’s not impossible. For me two things have worked. First is finding a gym with good childcare. Lots of gyms have childcare, not all of them have decent childcare. Ask other moms for recommendations and check them out yourself. Sometimes it’s worth paying a little extra to feel like your kid is safe there. Second I’ve found workout plans that I can do from home or at the gym.
Have easy but healthy lunch options on hand. So I think I’m fairly normal when I say what I want for lunch is quite different than what my toddler wants for lunch. And I’m not sure either of them are necessarily healthy. That’s why I need healthy meals on hand that I can heat up quickly and enjoy without worrying about calorie intake. My favorite lunch option to have on hand is Healthy Choice Power Bowls. They are the only major brand in its category that can call 100% of its categories “healthy” as approved by the FDA. They are all natural and made with nutrient-packed veggies, natural proteins, and whole grains,, with over 16g of protein and 6-8g of fiber in every bowl! I’ve tried the Adobo Chicken Bowl and the Korean-Inspired Beef Bowl inspired by Korean, Cuban and Latin cuisines. Love that they are packaged in new bowls made of plant-based fiber instead of plastic!
Play with your kids. And I mean be really active with them. My 3 year old loves it when I run in circles with her. I’m not really sure the point of it but it definitely gets me moving and burning calories. You can also find some really awesome playground workouts on Pinterest to do while at the playground with them!
What are ways that you’ve found to make healthy choices as a mom? I’d love to hear more below!
I’m so thankful my kids only drink water. Makes it so much easier to be healthy that way since I don’t have to buy it. These meals look really good and convenient to take to work.
These are great alternatives to making healthy choices. I’m so guilty of the sugary caffeinated coffee drink and picking up unhealthy dinners.
I only drink water or alcohol lol
These are great tips mama! I always struggle with this stuff! I need to try these healthy choice meals!
cutting out diet coke is SO hard. I love Lacroix and need to keep it around more often. Also, that meal looks delicious! what is it?
I have been woking on the soda, and it is tough! BUT, I have been enjoying the flavored waters, so hopefully it will get easier!
We’re water drinkers here- but I SO wish we had a gym with childcare! Also, those bowls look delish!
