Now I feel like we are on the countdown to the big 2nd birthday. And this month has been huge. I mean Maddie Grace went from animal noises and saying a few words to talking in full sentences. It’s really like my little baby all of a sudden became a little girl and while it’s fun and really cool to see her language developing, it’s also bittersweet because I want her to be my baby forever. She is getting better at telling us what she wants which helps with the temper tantrums immensely, even though she still has a couple a day it seems.
I’ll start with language since that’s been so big this month. All of a sudden she’s putting together words and making sense. The best example of this is how she says “Where’s ____? (whatever she’s looking for)” and then when she finds it “there he is!” no matter what the pronoun there should be. She does this regularly with wubby (her pacifier), daddy, “meow meow”, and really anything she can think of. One of my favorite moments was a couple weekends ago in Savannah when we were out to eat and she saw the ketchup container (her favorite food) and pointed at it and yelled excitedly “There he is! There he is! There he is!” She will also say “let’s go outside!” – I’m not sure how much of this is her really understanding language and how much is her just repeating the phrases she hears us say constantly but she definitely knows what they mean when she says them.
I’ve been working really hard with MG on colors and she seems to be picking up some. We have the best luck with blue – a couple of times she’s handed me something and said blue and the object was actually blue. She can also repeat purple, red, and brown, but doesn’t seem to actually know what color they are.
Overall Maddie Grace is a happy and energetic girl. Of course she has her grumpy moods too. She loves to go outside and run, play catch with balls, and her favorite thing is slides. She likes music and dancing, chasing her “meow meow”, all animals really, reading books, coloring, running around like crazy. She’s a big fan of throwing things away, and we have to double check the trash can constantly to make sure she didn’t throw away anything important even though she’s generally good about that.
MG is still absolutely loving school and especially one of her teachers there. Yesterday when I dropped her off she immediately gave her teacher a huge hug and didn’t seem to mind me leaving at all, which made me a little sad. But then seeing how excited she was to see me when I picked her up made it completely worthwhile. As did getting to go to my doctor’s appointment without her.
Maddie Grace is also still a big snuggler, which I love. Her newest sweet things are blowing kisses, and climbing up on me and rubbing her nose against mine like an eskimo kiss while holding the back of my head. It’s kind of my favorite thing ever. She’s also quite the little performer. She loves to put on shows for people. One of her favorite things to do is make people lay down on the ground and puts them to sleep by making her fake snoring noise, and then yell at them “Awake! Awake!” – she’s just a little bit bossy.

Another favorite right now? These adorable bows she’s been wearing everywhere that actually stay in her hair! They are handmade and come from Gray Fox Handmade. The other day she handed me all of them one by one and asked me to put them in her hair so she had bows all over the place. Gary Fox makes these bows in several different sizes and on clips or headbands!

I remember this age well. It's a non-stop whirlwind of growth and realizing that your baby is growing up. She is very adorable by the way! Love those bows 🙂
