I figured I needed to hustle in a last minute late afternoon Friday post about our last weekend as a new weekend is here! We had an amazing long weekend in New Jersey visiting my husband’s extended family. We always stay with his 91 year old grandpa “Pop,” who tells us great stories of WWII, Tom’s dad and brothers growing up, and baseball. We specifically picked labor day weekend because we knew a lot of the family would be in town, one of Tom’s cousins was having a baby shower, and his family always has a big family picnic on Labor Day. It was also our first time flying with Maddie Grace, which I was really nervous about. I’ll admit she was not great on the flight up – she cried and screamed almost the whole time. Everyone around us was nice though and wanted to see the baby on the flight and afterwards told us that she did great (although we knew otherwise). The flight back she was a completely different baby though. That flight was rough and bumpy (I was having a panic attack) but she just slept or was awake and happy the whole time – absolutely no screaming or crying. And on that flight no one told us she did great! She got her Delta wings though so I was happy about being able to add those to her scrapbook.
Our weekend was full of quality family time. We packed in so many activities and loved every minute of being there and are already trying to figure out when we can go back up. We went to the zoo, had a family BBQ, I went to a baby shower, watched Georgia beat Clemson (go Dawgs!), and attended the family picnic, where Tom and I came in 2nd place in the family egg toss and last place in bocce ball. Tom and I both come from small families and didn’t grow up around our extended families, and therefore have no cousins for our kids to grow up with (although we do call the children of our friends her cousins). Sometimes I wish we could move to New Jersey to be close to everyone but I don’t think I could handle the cold or the driving. This is partly why I am determined to have a large family. Here are some pictures from our trip.
Hope everyone has an amazing weekend. Tom and I are turning around and leaving for another trip. Not quite sure what we are doing yet though but he has the week off from work. We should probably figure that out…
