By now, you’ve probably already heard of Jessica Alba’s Honest Company. If not, where have you been? Their marketing and crunchy friendly products have taken the baby world by storm.
I am very well acquainted with Honest Company as we have been using Honest diapers and wipes from the beginning with Maddie Grace. I’ve also bought some other products from Honest, including their body wash, bug spray, sunscreen, and laundry detergent. I’ve never been disappointed in any of the products from Honest that I’ve purchased. Honest Company was nice enough to send me a variety of samples to review for all you wonderful readers.
First up I received the Honest Diaper Trial. In the trial comes 7 diapers in adorable prints, and a little travel package of what are already my favorite wipes. The trial is free but you do have to pay shipping of $5.95. Honest is perhaps well known for having the most adorable diapers and a large selection of prints to choose from. Honest boasts that these diapers are natural and gentle while being ultra absorbent. I find these claims to be true. Maddie Grace has very sensitive skin, and these diapers do not bother her at all. I’ve heard complaints of Honest diapers leaking, especially overnight, but I’ve never had an Honest diaper leak. Not once. {Blowouts are another story but nothing except cloth holds those in}. Plus call me a sucker but I adore how cute the prints are, and get some pleasure when people say “even her diapers are fashionable!” They fit great, are soft to touch, and MG tells me she really likes them.
I don’t even know where to begin with Honest Wipes
My favorite thing is the way they smell. Amazing. Plus they are textured to clean really well and making it so you don’t have to use as many wipes as other brands. Wipes also tend to cause breakouts for MG and we have no issues with the Honest wipes.
Also in my box was the Honest Essentials Trial. Once again this is a free trial bundle that you just have to pay shipping for. In it you receive:
The Honest Shampoo and Body Wash I owned prior to receiving this. It smells nice and cleans well, but is not my favorite shampoo and body wash. I do like the bottle that the full size version comes in as it is easy for traveling with.
The Honest Face and Body Lotion is nice and light. It goes on smooth, and a little goes a long ways, and has virtually no smell to it which I see as a plus.
This lavender Honest Hand Soap smells divine. I suffer from sensitive skin like MG and lots of times soaps will dry out my skin, and this one doesn’t. I will likely purchase this in the future.
I’m all about natural cleaners so the Honest Multi-Surface Cleaner is right up my alley. It smells nice and cleans hard surfaces well. I wouldn’t say it’s the best cleaner I’ve ever used, but it gets the job done and is natural so I plan on purchasing a full sized bottle in the future.
Honest Healing Balm is something you need with a baby. Not only is it for use on diaper rash, but it can be used on scrapes, bug bites, chapped lips, and other areas of irritation on your baby or you. This works well, isn’t overly sticky, and has a pleasant scent to it. In the past I’ve used Aden and Anais Mum and Bub Soothing Ointment which is a similar product, but based on both cost and quality I will be purchasing the Honest healing balm in the future instead.
4-in-1 Laundry Packs
Honest sent me a full size version of their new 4-in-1 Honest Laundry Pods. I’ve used their regular detergent in the past and liked it, so I was excited to try these out. The concept is like dishwasher packs, but for the laundry. Each pack contains natural cleaning, stain fighting, brightening, and softening powers. These you just add to your main drum of your washing machine and start a load. The packs have no harsh chemical residues, chlorine or fragrances. I have used it in several loads now and it seems to work well. We have a front loading HE machine, and my only complaint is that sometimes the pack gets stuck by the door, and then everything from the pack doesn’t get in the laundry. I’m not sure that I will buy these in the future because I do think just using regular detergent works better for the machine we have and seems to be the more cost-efficient detergent.
From what I’ve heard in mommy circles, most people’s biggest deterrence to using Honest Company products is the price. However, my accountant husband has run the numbers, and when we order the Honest Diapers Bundle we actually end up saving money over other green/safer brands. The bundle gives you around a month’s supply, or 6 packages of diapers and 4 packages of wipes, shipped to your door for $79.95 a month. The brand of diapers I find most comparable to Honest is Seventh Generation, which we also use. These will run you $12-13 for one pack of diapers and $2.99 for a package of wipes. Thus, Honest ends up being less expensive. Likewise, the Honest Family Essentials Bundle
makes household products from Honest Company more affordable. For $35 you get a choice of 5 full sized products shipped to your door. Almost everything I ordered in my first bundle retails at $10 or more, so I saved over $15 ordering the bundle together, plus there were no additional costs for shipping.
As much as I love all the Honest products we use, I have researched into their claims of being green and natural, and stumbled upon certain articles that do concern me. They do not concern me enough to deter me from purchasing more Honest products, but I do feel that readers should be aware. A big article came out this Summer (I read it on Perez Hilton) about Honest making their wipes in China at a facility known for using unsafe chemicals in their products in the past (read more here). However, there is no proof that the wipes contain anything other than what Honest claims is in them. Honest has been very transparent in dealing with the issue since it came to light though, writing a blog post regarding why their wipes are manufactured in China. I continue to use Honest wipes knowing that they are made in China because they are my favorite wipes and I trust Honest’s response that the wipes are up to a certain standard and that the employees who manufacture the wipes are treated fairly.
All in all, I find Honest products to be high quality and to just work for our family. That doesn’t necessarily mean they will work for yours, but I recommend giving them a chance. Have you tried Honest products? Let me know in the comments below!
I received the above products complimentary for purposes of facilitating this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and I only recommend products I truly love. This post does contain affiliate links.
I love the wipes! & I have tried the diapers once they were being sold in Target. I noticed I had better luck when I went a size down. Kenzie wears a 4 but the honest size 4 would leak. So wearing 3 she had no leaks & I loved them. Cute patterns too!
I love that they are in Target and Costco now! It is so hard to go back to regular diapers after using the cute patterns!
The honest stuff is so cute! I'm glad that something like this is available.
I agree!
